Police have launched a compulsory investigation into a former nursing assistant suspected of supplying drugs to a woman who crashed a black Porsche SUV off Banpo Bridge in Seoul while under the influence of psychotropic substances.
According to Seoul Economic Daily's report on the 9th, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul recently conducted a search and seizure at the hospital where the suspect, identified only as A, a woman in her 30s, had worked. A is suspected of providing drugs obtained from her workplace to B, the driver involved in the Banpo Bridge accident.
A turned herself in voluntarily at Yongsan Police Station on the 2nd of this month, confessing that she had given drugs to B. Propofol, a psychotropic medication, was found inside B's vehicle, which A admitted to supplying. A reportedly worked at a hospital that had business ties with B, who runs a hospital marketing agency.
On the day of the accident, A was in the passenger seat while B remained at a parking garage of a building in Seocho-dong, according to police.
Police applied for an arrest warrant for A on the 6th. A pretrial detention hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on the 10th at Seoul Western District Court. B was arrested earlier and referred to prosecutors on the 6th.
B allegedly crashed through a guardrail on Banpo Bridge around 8:44 p.m. on the 25th of last month while driving a black Porsche SUV, plunging onto the Han River embankment below. She faces charges of drug-impaired driving under the Road Traffic Act. Large quantities of propofol, sedative anesthetics, and disposable syringes were found in the vehicle.
The crash injured both B and a male driver in his 40s whose Mercedes-Benz was struck by the Porsche. Both were transported to a hospital but are not in life-threatening condition.
B, who was booked by Yongsan Police Station, reportedly admitted during questioning that she drove approximately 10 kilometers in a disoriented state after taking drugs.
