A lottery player has won 2 billion won in first prize on an instant scratch-off ticket after dreaming of his late mother, according to a recently shared account.
Dong-haeng Lottery, the lottery operator, introduced the story of first-prize winner A on its official website, describing him as the Round 67 winner of the "Speetto 2000" instant lottery. A purchased the ticket at a lottery retailer in Imdang-dong, Gangneung, Gangwon Province.
A said he bought 10,000 won worth of Lotto tickets and 10,000 won worth of Speetto tickets once a week. Recently, he dreamed that his late mother was smiling brightly at him. Thinking only vaguely that it was a pleasant dream, A purchased tickets as usual. "I checked the results the next day, and to my surprise, first-prize wins came up consecutively," he said.
"I couldn't believe it, so I checked several times," A said. "It seems the dream of my mother was a premonition of good fortune." Regarding his plans for the prize money, he said, "I plan to use it to pay off my loans. The thought of clearing the debt that has long weighed on my mind makes me feel like I can breathe again. I'm grateful that luck has come my way, and I want to take it a little easier going forward and live diligently with some peace of mind."
"Speetto 2000" is an instant lottery in which players scratch the surface to immediately check whether they have won. The first prize is 1 billion won. A had purchased one set of two tickets at the time, winning a total of 2 billion won.
Meanwhile, lottery sales are on the rise as more people seek a "once-in-a-lifetime jackpot" amid the economic downturn. According to the Lottery Commission under the Ministry of Economy and Finance, total lottery sales last year reached 7.6582 trillion won. This marks a 4.4% increase from the previous year's 7.3349 trillion won and is the largest figure on record. Lotteries are considered a representative recession-era consumer product, but the purchase rate has recently been rising among high-income earners as well.
