GS Caltex, an affiliate of GS Group (078930.KS), said Thursday it signed a comprehensive memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Veolia, a global environmental solutions company, to strengthen energy cooperation.
The two companies elevated their relationship from a limited water treatment partnership to a strategic partnership sharing future strategies. Veolia, headquartered in France, is the world's top-ranked company in water, waste and energy management.
GS Caltex and Veolia plan to jointly develop and deploy integrated solutions across environmental, energy and digital domains to respond to tightening environmental regulations and improve energy efficiency. The partnership will be pursued under a "Triple-X" framework comprising business transformation (BX), digital and AI transformation (DAX), and green transformation (GX).
Through this collaboration, GS Caltex will review opportunities for integrated operation and optimization of wastewater treatment facilities at its Yeosu plant, as well as greater utility synergies with nearby companies.
The company will also introduce Veolia's AI-based digital solutions at the Yeosu plant to enable real-time analysis of utility operation data and advance its intelligent process management systems. This will accelerate the plant's transition to a smart factory through optimized process operations, anomaly detection and predictive maintenance. GS Caltex also plans to adopt Veolia's proprietary eco-friendly technologies at the Yeosu plant, including wastewater reuse, cooling system improvements and valuable material recovery.
"The partnership with Veolia will be an important opportunity to innovate overall utility operations and take our ESG management to the next level," GS Caltex Vice Chairman Huh Se-hong said. "We will secure sustainable competitiveness based on world-class technology and operational expertise."
