Gimpo, a city in Gyeonggi Province west of Seoul, will cover 50% of Ilsan Bridge tolls for residents during weekday rush hours starting in April. As Gyeonggi Province already subsidizes the other 50%, Gimpo residents will effectively cross the bridge toll-free.
Gimpo City announced on May 27 that it has completed a registration system for the Ilsan Bridge toll subsidy program. Users can sign up and apply for reimbursement based on their Hi-Pass electronic toll collection records.
The subsidy covers vehicles owned by individuals registered as Gimpo residents. The city will reimburse 50% of the base toll for trips made during weekday commuting hours — 6 to 9 a.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Vehicles owned by organizations or corporations are excluded.
Applications are accepted from the 1st to the 10th of each month. Payments are disbursed at the end of each month after review. To apply, users must first register their Hi-Pass card on the Korea Expressway Corporation website, then create an account on the Gimpo City registration system.
Monthly applications are standard, but users may also submit a combined claim the following month. However, claims cannot be carried over to the next year.
"The commuting cost burden on residents will be substantially eased," Gimpo Mayor Kim Byung-soo said. "We will review expanding eligibility and covered time slots going forward."
