Min Kyung-sun, the Democratic Party of Korea's candidate for Goyang mayor, has launched a wide-ranging field campaign immediately after receiving the party's official nomination, visiting key sites across the city to address pressing local issues.
Min has been personally tackling major challenges facing Goyang, including stagnant commercial districts, traffic problems, and disputes over city hall relocation, while proposing policy alternatives. In line with urgent appeals from the four National Assembly members representing Goyang to secure victory in the general election, he plans to accelerate his on-site activities.
Min began his full schedule on Wednesday by greeting commuters at Madu Station. In the morning, he attended a meeting of building representatives from the La Festa management group to hear proposals for revitalizing the struggling commercial area. "I will establish practical administrative support measures so that La Festa and other major commercial districts in Goyang can regain their vitality," Min said.
In the afternoon, he held a discussion with the Goyang branch of the National Bus Workers' Union Federation to review working conditions for bus workers. He particularly sought input from frontline workers on his signature pledge to cut commuting times by 30 minutes.
"Improving workers' treatment directly leads to citizen safety and more convenient transportation services," Min said, pledging to reflect field voices in his policies.
On the same day, he also met with the Committee for the Promotion of the Original Goyang City Hall Construction. During the meeting, Min discussed cooperation regarding the city hall relocation to Wondang and proposed an alternative pledge to convert the controversial Baekseok office building into an industry-academia convergence center.
Min's field activities will continue Thursday. At 7 a.m., he is scheduled to attend the 79th Goyang Economic Forum to present policies on local economic issues. He will then participate in a social solidarity economy policy delivery ceremony, a meeting with the baseball association, and a resident discussion with the Byeolbit Village housing association in Deogyang District.
On Friday, when official candidate registration begins, he will visit Korea Aerospace University in Hwajeon-dong together with Choo Mi-ae, the Democratic Party's candidate for Gyeonggi Province governor. Min plans to discuss with Choo the direction of Goyang's future advanced industry, the "aviation convergence industry." The visit is seen as a strategic move to link Goyang's pending issues to key agendas of the Gyeonggi provincial government.
"The confirmation of the nomination is not the finish line but a new beginning," an official from Min's campaign said. "We will prove Goyang's grand transformation through action rather than words, running on the ground where citizens' daily lives are rooted."
