A village bus struck five vehicles in Seoul's Gangseo District during rush hour, injuring more than 20 passengers and pedestrians.
According to police and fire authorities on the 10th, the village bus collided with five vehicles in succession at approximately 5:38 p.m. on an alley road next to an apartment complex in Yeomchang-dong, Gangseo District. The bus reportedly discharged passengers at a stop, then suddenly accelerated, crossed the center line, and struck a vehicle waiting in the opposite lane.
The bus came to a stop after crashing into a guardrail along the apartment complex wall. The accident left 24 people with minor injuries, including the bus driver, a man in his 60s, 17 bus passengers, five occupants of the struck vehicles, and one pedestrian. Six people were transported to hospitals: three bus passengers, the bus driver, a truck driver, and a taxi driver. One of those transported is reported to be pregnant.
Police have secured the scene and are investigating the exact cause of the accident based on dashcam footage and nearby CCTV recordings. Authorities said they also plan to test the bus driver for alcohol and drugs.
