Pro-Han Dong-hoon faction members of the People Power Party (PPP) on Monday hailed a court ruling as "a victory for common sense" after it granted an injunction suspending the one-year party membership suspension imposed on Rep. Bae Hyun-jin.
Former PPP leader Han Dong-hoon wrote on his Facebook page, "This is a victory for common sense. Courts normally refrain from intervening in party affairs."
He added, "A handful of 'Yoon Again' forces are destroying the traditional conservative party and conservatism itself with clearly abnormal conduct. They are destroying the Republic of Korea. The sensible majority must step forward to normalize the party and move toward the future."
PPP Rep. Park Jung-hoon also welcomed Bae's reinstatement as Seoul party chapter chairwoman, stating, "The court's unusual intervention in party affairs reflects how serious the tyranny under the Chang Dong-hyuk leadership has become. Please come to your senses."
PPP Rep. Han Ji-ah said, "I welcome the judiciary's common-sense judgment against purge politics. I hope the normalization of the Seoul chapter will serve as a stepping stone toward victory in local elections."
Rep. Ahn Sang-hoon criticized that "the purge politics using the ethics committee under the Chang Dong-hyuk regime has been stopped by the court."
With the court's injunction, Rep. Bae has regained her authority as Seoul chapter chairwoman. Bae expressed gratitude to the court "for seriously considering my appeal to protect the democratic system of a public party," adding, "The People Power Party must stop regressing and move toward the future."
