The Democratic Party of Korea on Wednesday nominated former Local Era Committee Chairman Kim Kyung-soo as its sole candidate for South Gyeongsang Province governor in the June 3 local elections.
Kim Yi-soo, chairman of the party's central nomination management committee, held a press conference at the National Assembly and said, "We concluded that candidate Kim is highly suitable as the right person to lead South Gyeongsang in the era of five growth poles and three special zones."
"We ask for the affectionate interest and encouragement of provincial residents and the public so that candidate Kim's upright character, extensive experience, and abilities can be realized," Kim Yi-soo added.
The committee chairman said, "Where the dream of the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam megacity collapsed, the five growth poles and three special zones are now shining," adding that "only someone with an understanding of the Lee Jae-myung administration's governing philosophy and the DNA of understanding regional balanced development can do this."
"Candidate Kim was elected South Gyeongsang governor in 2018 and has experience successfully leading the provincial administration," Kim Yi-soo said. "Having served as Local Era Committee chairman, his understanding of both governing philosophy and regional development is at the highest level."
The Democratic Party has now sequentially nominated three metropolitan government head candidates for the June 3 local elections: Woo Sang-ho for Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province governor, Park Chan-dae for Incheon mayor, and Kim for South Gyeongsang governor.
