Kim Cheol-woo, the incumbent Boseong County governor known as a "symbol of integrity," has passed the first hurdle to become the Democratic Party of Korea's leading candidate for county governor in the local elections scheduled for June 3.
The Democratic Party's Jeonnam Provincial Nomination Management Committee announced on the 13th that Governor Kim passed the party's preliminary candidate qualification screening.
With this development, Kim's bid for a third term is now virtually confirmed, and he is expected to begin campaigning in earnest for the party nomination.
Governor Kim has achieved the highest rating for four consecutive years through 2025 in the "Comprehensive Integrity Assessment of Public Institutions" conducted by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission during his 7th and 8th popularly elected terms. This accomplishment has firmly established the image of "Integrity equals Boseong" nationwide and is credited with upholding the pride of Boseong County residents.
Additionally, through sound fiscal management, he has provided livelihood support funds for two consecutive years and secured record-level central government funding, opening what officials call the "800 billion won budget era" for the first time in Boseong County's history. These achievements have earned him praise as an effective local government leader.
Based on these accomplishments, Kim ranked first with an overwhelming lead approaching a majority in a recent poll conducted by a local media outlet.
