An infant suffering from high fever and vomiting arrived at a hospital within five minutes and received treatment safely thanks to swift on-site response by police, according to reports.
According to the Ilsan Dongbu Police Station in Gyeonggi Province on Wednesday, a man knocked on the door of a patrol car waiting at a traffic signal in front of Jungsan Sports Park in Ilsandong-gu, Goyang, at around 8:08 p.m. on November 11, seeking help. The man asked for assistance, saying, "My baby has a fever of 39 degrees Celsius, but traffic is blocked and we need to get to the hospital quickly."
The 22-month-old boy was showing symptoms of vomiting and high fever, while surrounding roads were congested during evening rush hour. Police radioed the situation room to report the emergency and then guided the guardian's vehicle using the patrol car.
The patrol car led the way to the emergency room at Ilsan Cha Hospital, alerting vehicles ahead of the emergency and controlling traffic and signals to swiftly guide the guardian's vehicle to the hospital. With the police escort, the guardian's vehicle covered the approximately 6-kilometer distance with 15 traffic signals in just five minutes to reach the hospital. The child's father expressed his gratitude to the police, saying, "Thanks to them, my child was treated well and is now doing fine."
Two police officers from the Jungsan District Unit of Ilsan Dongbu Police Station and a trainee were in the patrol car at the time. A police official said, "In the heavily congested situation, citizens helped out and the road opened up like Moses parting the sea, allowing us to assist with the transport in time," adding, "We will continue to do our best to help citizens in urgent situations."
