Han Byung-do, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, emphasized his commitment to pass the Special Act on US Investment by early March, stating that the party will "definitively remove tariff uncertainty so our companies can operate with peace of mind."
At the party's policy coordination meeting held at the National Assembly on Wednesday, Han said, "Yesterday we decided to form a special committee to process the Special Act on US Investment. We specified that the bill would be processed by early March, enhancing predictability."
Regarding the People Power Party effectively withdrawing its demand for "ratification consent" as a precondition for agreeing to form the special committee, Han assessed that "it is significant that we no longer have to engage in wasteful debates over ratification consent."
Han stated, "We will concentrate all our capabilities on achieving visible legislative results before the Lunar New Year holiday," adding that the party would "substantively operate standing committees over the next week and return hope to the public at the February 12 plenary session."
He listed approximately 80 bills scheduled for plenary submission, including the Essential Medical Care Enhancement Act to strengthen essential medical services and address regional healthcare disparities, amendments to the Information and Communications Network Act for preventing personal information breaches and expediting responses and victim relief, and the Special Act on Retirement Village Development to stabilize housing and improve quality of life for the elderly.
Han also sharply criticized the prosecution's decision on Tuesday to abandon its appeal in the Wirye New Town development favoritism case. "The true face of the political prosecution's manipulated investigations and targeted indictments has been exposed," he said.
"For the past several years, they brandished their swords making the whole country noisy, but quietly tucked their tails when a not-guilty verdict came down," Han said. "This is the inevitable conclusion of the manipulated indictment that the Yoon Seok-yeol prosecution carried out to eliminate political rival Lee Jae-myung."
Han declared, "Using the judicial system as a weapon to eliminate political competitors can never be tolerated or forgiven. We will mobilize all means, including a special counsel investigation and parliamentary inquiry, to clearly expose the reality of the prosecution's political investigations and manipulated indictments."
