Chung Won-oh, the Democratic Party of Korea's candidate for Seoul mayor, proposed to the party on Wednesday the establishment of a special committee to address pending issues in the four Gangnam districts — Gangnam, Seocho, Songpa, and Gangdong. Party leader Chung Cheong-rae responded, "We will do it immediately."
At an on-site Supreme Council meeting held Wednesday at the campaign office of Songpa district head candidate Cho Jae-hee in Seoul's Songpa district, the candidate said, "The party and the Seoul Metropolitan Government must firmly support the competence of the Lee Jae-myung administration in the four Gangnam districts and further across the Han River belt." He added, "This is already my third visit here, and I will reflect residents' wishes in resolving pending Songpa issues, including the development of the former Seongdong Detention Center site and the ecological restoration of Seongnaecheon Stream."
In response, party leader Chung Cheong-rae asked, "What are the four Gangnam districts? Are you officially proposing that we create a development special committee covering Gangnam, Seocho, and Gangdong as well?" He then said, "We will do it immediately."
Addressing Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party's candidate for Seoul mayor, Chung Won-oh said, "He only blames the government for property issues. Oh has been Seoul mayor for the past five years." He continued, "Citizens know well whether he did nothing and failed to prepare any measures during that time, only to try to shift the responsibility onto the capable Lee Jae-myung administration once the property market became unstable."
He pledged, "The administration will responsibly support redevelopment and reconstruction projects and proactively inspect safety, while the Seoul Metropolitan Government will manage damage to commercial districts and daily inconveniences to the end." He also said, "I will start by integrating the Climate Companion Card and K-Pass," adding, "I will ease citizens' inconvenience with the 'K-Everyone's Climate Companion Card,' which combines the strengths of the two cards, each with its own characteristics."
Party spokesperson Park Ji-hye met with reporters after the Supreme Council meeting and said, "The party will swiftly proceed with forming the special committee." She added, "The committee will make decisions that address sore spots where regional development has been delayed." Secretary General Cho Seung-rae will be in charge of organizing the committee.
