EcoPro Soars 20% While LG Energy Solution Gains 10% on Robot Battery Theme

EcoPro (086520.KQ) surged more than 20% during intraday trading on Tuesday, far outpacing other major secondary battery stocks that also rose on growing interest in robot battery applications.

As of 1:40 p.m., EcoPro was trading at 164,700 won, up 19% from the previous day, according to Korea Exchange data. The stock opened lower but climbed more than 20% during the session, touching 169,700 won at its peak.

EcoPro's rally stood out among large-cap battery stocks. LG Energy Solution (373220.KS) jumped more than 10% the previous day on strong earnings and speculation about robot battery supply deals with Tesla and other overseas companies, but has since pared gains to around 4%. Samsung SDI (006400.KS) rose 1.42%, while EcoPro BM (247540.KQ) gained 4.68%.

EcoPro has now risen for five consecutive trading days since January 22. Analysts attribute the surge to the emerging robot theme, as secondary batteries are being reexamined as power sources for robotics applications.

Industry observers note that ternary batteries hold an advantage over lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries for robot applications. Ternary batteries offer higher energy density than LFP, making them smaller and lighter. While LFP batteries have gained ground in the electric vehicle market, EcoPro's expertise in ternary battery technology positions the company favorably in the robotics sector, according to analysts.

EcoPro now ranks second in KOSDAQ market capitalization at 22.36 trillion won, closely trailing leader Alteogen (196170.KQ) at 23.11 trillion won. EcoPro BM holds third place with a market cap of 21.86 trillion won.
