Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) will equip its upcoming Galaxy foldable smartphones with a new feature that allows an artificial intelligence (AI) agent to autonomously navigate multiple applications and perform required tasks.
According to industry sources Monday, Samsung Electronics will install the latest version of its next-generation operating system, "One UI 9," which supports Google's "Gemini Intelligence," on the new foldable phones "Galaxy Z Fold 8" and "Galaxy Z Flip 8" set to be unveiled in July. Gemini Intelligence is a new AI feature unveiled by Google the same day, and among Galaxy series devices, the Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 will be the first to commercialize it.
Gemini Intelligence features multitasking capabilities that go beyond AI launching apps based on user commands, enabling it to simultaneously run multiple required apps. For example, if a user writes a shopping list in a memo app and says, "Put these items in the delivery app's shopping cart," the AI moves between the memo app and the delivery app to execute the command. The user only needs to check the items arranged in the delivery app's cart and complete the payment.
Earlier this year, Samsung Electronics introduced some "actionable" AI features that allow AI to launch apps on its own through "One UI 8.5" installed on the "Galaxy S26" series. One UI 9, equipped with Gemini Intelligence, advances these capabilities further by giving AI multitasking abilities.
Ahead of the One UI 9 launch, Samsung Electronics began beta testing the same day for Galaxy S26 users in major countries including Korea. Additions include "Masking Tape," which supports various pen options in the notes app, and "Creative Studio," which links with the contacts app to easily create profile cards. Gemini Intelligence has not yet been implemented and is scheduled to be included in the official release version.
"The newly introduced One UI 9 will deliver advanced AI features based on next-generation Android, providing a more efficient and personalized mobile experience," Samsung Electronics said.
