POSCO Research Institute said Wednesday it appointed Lim Ji-won, a former member of the Bank of Korea's (BOK) Monetary Policy Board, as its new CEO and president, following a shareholders' meeting and board meeting held on the same day.
Lim graduated from Seoul National University in 1987 and earned a doctorate in economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She spent nearly 30 years conducting macroeconomic analysis and forecasting at private research institutes and global investment banks, including Samsung Economic Research Institute and JP Morgan.
She served as a member of the BOK's Monetary Policy Board from 2018 to 2022, participating in key macroeconomic policy decisions on the base rate, payment and settlement systems, and currency issuance. She has also been an active adviser to government and policy institutions, including the Financial Services Commission (FSC), the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS), and the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MOEF).
"President Lim is the first female head of the institute and the second external appointment in its history," POSCO Research Institute said. "We expect the institute to further strengthen its role as the group's think tank amid a rapidly changing business environment."
