Ulsan City is moving to find ways to expand air travel demand to revitalize Ulsan Airport.
The city said Wednesday it held the "Ulsan Airport Revitalization Council" at Ulsan Airport to discuss measures for boosting aviation demand and revitalizing the airport.
About 10 officials attended the council meeting, co-hosted by Ulsan City and Ulsan Airport, including representatives from Korean Air, Jin Air, Air Busan and UMIT.
Participants discussed plans to support aviation travel packages linked to Ulsan Airport for 2026 and various ideas for airport revitalization. The meeting also gathered opinions on the direction of financial support to improve airline operating conditions.
In particular, Ulsan City plans to encourage stable route operations based on financial support measures such as subsidizing airline operating losses and reducing facility usage fees, in connection with the National Tourism Strategy Meeting held on February 25. The city also plans to create new aviation demand by expanding tourism-linked travel packages.
Additionally, the city is building a foundation for expanding air service supply, including attracting small airlines and supporting route resumptions. Through these efforts, Ulsan City aims to actively encourage expanded flights by Seom Air, which is scheduled to launch a new Ulsan-Gimpo route in May, and Hi Air, which plans to resume operations within this year.
"Based on close cooperation with airlines, we will pursue effective support policies such as financial assistance and aviation demand creation in connection with the central government's regional airport revitalization policy," an Ulsan City official said. "We will diversify routes by attracting small airlines and promote greater use of Ulsan Airport."
