South Korea Urges North to Halt Ballistic Missile Launches

South Korea's presidential National Security Office said on the 14th that North Korea's ballistic missile launches constitute "provocative acts violating United Nations Security Council resolutions" and called for their immediate cessation.

The National Security Office held an emergency security situation review meeting attended by relevant agencies including the Ministry of National Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff regarding the launch of approximately 10 ballistic missiles from near Pyongyang toward the East Sea, the office said.

The National Security Office also reported to President Lee Jae-myung on the North Korean ballistic missile launch situation and related measures.

Earlier, the Joint Chiefs of Staff said it "detected approximately 10 unidentified ballistic missiles launched from the Sunan area of North Korea toward the East Sea at around 1:20 p.m. today." The missiles flew approximately 350 kilometers, and South Korea and the United States are conducting detailed analysis of the precise specifications, the JCS added.

This marks North Korea's first ballistic missile launch in 47 days since its January 27 launch toward the East Sea, and the third this year.
