Jun Jae-soo, the Democratic Party candidate for Busan mayor, opened his campaign office on Tuesday, with party leader Jung Chung-rae attending to lend his support.
"The dream of all Busan citizens is the dream of Korea, and only when the party and the government work in harmony can we achieve 'Busan, the Maritime Capital,'" Jung said at Jun's campaign office in Busan on Tuesday. "Please become another Jun Jae-soo. The party will do everything it can, everything Jun Jae-soo wants," Jung said. "Behind Jun Jae-soo stands the leading ruling party and the Lee Jae-myung government."
Jung also praised the candidate, saying, "He is very meticulous. He resembles President Lee Jae-myung. It was because of Jun Jae-soo and President Lee that the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries was relocated to Busan."
"I will bring together your passion and hearts to achieve Busan's development," Jun said. "I will not be a mayor who does what he wants to do, but a mayor that Busan citizens want." Criticizing his rival, People Power Party Busan Mayor Park Heong-jun, Jun said, "Mayor Park Heong-jun also worked hard, but despite his hard work, there have been no results and no direction, so even working himself to the bone produces nothing."
"The projects he pushed exist only in his head, but Busan as the Maritime Capital is something you can touch and see with your own eyes," Jun said. "Over the past 30 years, there has never been a Busan mayoral candidate whose chemistry with the president has been this good. Let us build a solid Maritime Capital during the president's term."
The opening ceremony was held under the slogan "A Housewarming with Busan Citizens." Citizen speakers included Lee Bok-soon, an elderly woman known as the "Yeongdo Kkangkkangi Mother" who chairs Jun's support group, along with Jun Jeong-geun, chairman of the HMM maritime labor union, and Oh Seung-hoon, vice chairman of the Busan Port Workers' Union.
