The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs announced on the 11th that the Korean Provisional Government Memorial Hall and the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the afternoon of the 10th to promote elementary and secondary education on the history of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea.
Under the agreement, the two institutions will actively cooperate on developing and operating educational programs on Provisional Government history, supporting participation of students and faculty in Seoul, conducting collaborative projects for education, research, exhibitions and capacity building, and facilitating mutual exchange of human resources.
Starting this year, the Memorial Hall will conduct voluntary teacher training programs in partnership with the Seoul education office for elementary school teachers in June and secondary school teachers in July. The programs will include lectures on Provisional Government history, exhibition tours and commentary, introduction to educational programs, and sharing of teaching case studies.
The Memorial Hall will also support pre-departure education sessions in July for students participating in the Seoul education office's overseas independence movement study tours. Two preparatory sessions will be held at the Korean Provisional Government Memorial Hall and Seodaemun Prison History Hall.
"Through this MOU, we will work to convey the history and values of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea to elementary, middle and high school students and teachers in Seoul," said Kim Hee-gon, director of the Memorial Hall. "We will strive to promote school education about the Provisional Government, which served as the centripetal force for national independence."
