A man in his 60s has been arrested for allegedly murdering an acquaintance who was pressuring him to repay a debt and disposing of the body.
Sangdang Police Station in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, announced on January 7 that they have arrested and are investigating a man identified as A on charges of murder and abandonment of a corpse.
A is suspected of strangling B, an acquaintance also in his 60s, at A's construction company office in Okcheon-eup, Okcheon County, North Chungcheong Province, at approximately 4 p.m. on January 4. He is also accused of placing B's body in a burlap sack and dumping it in a nearby hillside area the following day.
According to police investigation, A had borrowed several hundred million won from B but had failed to repay the debt on time. A reportedly told police that he was showing B around his business premises to demonstrate his ability to repay when B began pressing him for the money, prompting him to commit the crime in a fit of rage.
Police launched an investigation after receiving a missing person report from B's children the day before the arrest. Investigators confirmed that B's vehicle had traveled from Cheongju to the vicinity of A's office in Okcheon on the day of his disappearance. Upon questioning, A confessed to the crime.
Police plan to request an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to determine the exact cause of death.
