OpenAI held the "OpenAI Codex CTO Forum" on May 31 for chief technology officers of major Korean companies, the company said the same day.
About 120 technology leaders at the CTO level from large corporations and startups attended the forum at the Josun Palace Hotel in Gangnam, Seoul. The event's theme was "Coding Teammate." Discussions centered on how AI-powered software development is shifting from code auto-completion toward AI performing across the entire development process.
Albert Yip, OpenAI's head of technical support for the Asia-Pacific region, who attended the event, said AI is no longer just a tool that assists developer productivity when discussing recent coding agent trends. Yip explained that AI agents are evolving into a delegation model where they are entrusted with and carry out actual development tasks. He emphasized that this shift represents a new paradigm in which developers collaborate with AI and divide work between them.
A key topic was the transition in AI-powered software development from conventional code auto-completion toward a "coding teammate" model where AI participates across the entire development process.
Ryu Ki-eok, an OpenAI Codex technical adoption engineer, presented examples of how OpenAI's internal teams actually use AI agents. Codex usage has spread rapidly this year, showing steep growth particularly among developers and technical users. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said on his X account on May 16 that "OpenAI's weekly Codex users have more than tripled since the start of 2026."
