KT Corp. CEO Kim Young-seob apologized for a cybersecurity breach that occurred last year and announced the nomination of a new chief executive.
"I deeply apologize for the concerns caused by the cybersecurity breach incident last year," Kim said at KT's 44th annual general shareholders' meeting held at the company's R&D center in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on Monday morning. "We will do our utmost to overhaul our company-wide security system and innovate our information security based on a zero-trust framework."
"Over the past year, we have accelerated our transformation into an AICT company and pursued fundamental changes across our business and technology," Kim said. "We will strengthen the fundamentals in every area — from networks to IT, marketing, and customer service — to become a company that customers can trust."
Meanwhile, KT proceeded with the appointment of Park Yun-young as the new CEO at the shareholders' meeting. The National Pension Service, KT's largest shareholder, has expressed support for the appointment, making approval virtually certain. Park joined Hankook Telecom — KT's predecessor — in 1992 and has worked at KT for more than 30 years, serving in roles including head of the future business development division, corporate consulting division, and enterprise business division. Park will be the first internally promoted CEO since former CEO Ku Hyun-mo, marking a three-year gap.
