The entire stretch of Bogae-Wonsam Road, a key access route connecting the National Route 17 Gajaewol intersection in Wonsam-myeon, Cheoin-gu, Yongin, to the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster industrial complex, became fully accessible as of Wednesday.
Traffic congestion caused by heavy construction vehicles mixing with regular traffic is expected to ease, significantly improving the flow of vehicles entering the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster from National Route 17.
According to the Yongin city government on Wednesday, the city completed construction of the Gajaewol 1 Bridge and temporarily opened all sections of Bogae-Wonsam Road.
The city had previously opened all sections except the Gajaewol 1 Bridge segment on January 1.
The city has been expanding a 1.88-kilometer stretch from Gajaewol-ri to Dokseong-ri in Wonsam-myeon, Cheoin-gu, from two lanes to four lanes since May 22 last year, investing 43.3 billion won in the project.
The Bogae-Wonsam Road expansion was launched as a preemptive response to the expected surge in construction workers and vehicles following the groundbreaking of SK hynix's (000660.KS) semiconductor fab.
The road directly connects to the Nam-Yongin interchange on the Sejong-Pocheon Expressway. It serves as a critical axis handling both logistics transport and commuter traffic for the semiconductor cluster industrial complex.
Bogae-Wonsam Road will be officially opened after the expansion construction is completed on May 21.
"Bogae-Wonsam Road will help support the production and export of semiconductors including HBM when some of SK hynix's first-phase production lines at the semiconductor industrial complex begin operations next year," Mayor Lee Sang-il said. "The city will do its utmost to expand transportation infrastructure including roads and railways for the success of the Yongin semiconductor project."
