The Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority (BJFEZ) is accelerating efforts to foster high-value-added logistics industries by inspecting complex logistics companies at the Busan New Port hinterland.
BJFEZ announced on the 18th that it visited Dongwon BIDC, located in the North Container Terminal hinterland of Busan New Port, to review operations and hold an on-site meeting to hear business concerns.
The visit was organized as part of field-oriented policies to strengthen the competitiveness of complex logistics industries within the zone, aiming to assess the performance of leading companies and identify areas for regulatory improvement.
Dongwon BIDC is the largest logistics company in the hinterland, operating a 142,000-square-meter logistics center and providing integrated logistics services connecting land, sea, and air transportation. Beyond simple storage and transport, the company performs high-value-added logistics functions including processing, packaging, and repackaging, as well as global supply chain management.
The company has established itself as a key hub in the Asian supply chain, operating Amway's Asia logistics hub through its global network and handling more than 10,000 TEU annually. It recorded revenue of 63.8 billion won in 2024.
Building on such cases, BJFEZ plans to develop the Busan New Port hinterland beyond a simple logistics base into an Asian supply chain center for global companies. Key initiatives include expanding value-added logistics functions such as processing, assembly, and packaging; attracting global complex logistics firms; and advancing the triport-based logistics system connecting port, airport, and rail.
Park Sung-ho, Commissioner of BJFEZ, who visited the site, said, "High-value-added complex logistics companies are a core competitive advantage in the era of global supply chain reorganization." He added, "We will develop the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone into an industrial cluster combining processing, distribution, and logistics to make it a central hub for Asian supply chains."
