Karrot Pay, the in-app payment service of local secondhand marketplace Karrot, announced Monday that it is launching a project connecting new product purchases with secondhand transactions. The initiative aims to create a natural virtuous cycle where used items find new owners through local secondhand trading and the proceeds feed back into new product purchases.
As the first case of the project, Karrot Pay is running an Apple product promotion for approximately one month through May 2. Customers can purchase new Apple products at discounted prices using Karrot Pay's in-store payment at Lotte Hi-Mart stores nationwide, then earn Karrot Points by selling their old devices through Karrot's secondhand marketplace.
The eligible products for in-store payment include five models: iPhone 17, AirPods Pro 3, Apple Watch SE 3, iPad Air M4, and MacBook Neo. Some of these products offer discounts of up to 8% when purchased through Karrot Pay's in-store payment. On top of that, customers who sell their existing Apple devices through Karrot's secondhand marketplace can receive up to 40,000 Karrot Points depending on the product purchased via in-store payment.
Customers who fulfill both conditions — purchasing a new product through Karrot Pay and completing a secondhand sale — qualify for the benefits regardless of the order of transactions. Karrot Points will be distributed in a lump sum on May 27 after verification of transaction completion.
"This project is designed to naturally connect new product purchases and secondhand trading through Karrot Pay, expanding users' transaction experience to the next level," a Karrot Pay official said.
