Genesis BBQ Group has built a middle school in Kenya to support education in the region.
The company announced on the 16th that it constructed Norettet Middle School in Kajiado County, Kenya, through its corporate social responsibility initiative "I Love Africa." Construction began in 2024 and was completed in January this year. The school is equipped with laboratories and practical training facilities required for the local education system.
BBQ said the school will provide quality educational opportunities to local youth who previously had difficulty advancing to higher-level schools. Most schools in Kenya lack adequate education infrastructure and workforce development training systems. The newly established school is expected to nurture local talent with its sufficient educational facilities.
Funding for the school was raised through a "matching fund" program. Since 2018, BBQ has operated the matching fund where both headquarters and franchise stores contribute 10 won each whenever a customer orders one chicken.
A BBQ official said, "The school was built to honor the spirit of sharing that Chairman Yoon Hong-geun's late mother, the late Seo Ok-ja, emphasized during her lifetime. We will continue our social contribution activities to spread positive influence both domestically and internationally."
