For the first time in 17 years since Samsung Electronics (005930) established a local corporation in Vietnam to produce smartphones, a senior Vietnamese executive was born.
According to Samsung Electronics, Samsung Vietnam has appointed Nguyen Hoang Giang (Nguyen Hoang Giang) as the vice president of Samsung Electronics' Vietnam Thai Nguyen (SEVT) parts manufacturing department and product coloring technology department on the 1st of this month.
As a result of this greeting, General Manager Jiang was promoted to a local vice president-level executive and an executive equivalent to the rank of managing director at the Korean headquarters. An official from Samsung Electronics explained, “I was appointed as an executive in recognition of my achievements and merits in the Vietnam business.”
Vice President Jiang became the “No. 1” Vietnamese executive 17 years after Samsung Electronics established its first smartphone factory in Yen Phong, Bac Ninh Province in 2008. He is also the only Vietnamese executive in Samsung Electronics' global smartphone production corporation.
Vice President Jiang joined Samsung Electronics Vietnam (SEV) in 2010 and was the head of the smartphone production department from 2013 to 2014. Since then, from 2015 to the present, he has worked at SEVT as the head of the parts manufacturing department and product coloring technology department.
Samsung Electronics entered Yen Phong, Bac Ninh Province, Vietnam in 2008 and has been manufacturing smartphones locally since 2009. In 2013, it expanded to the world's largest production base by completing a second factory in Yen Binh, Thai Nguyen Province. As of August, smartphones and other mobile phones manufactured at the two factories have surpassed 2 billion units and are acting as a global production base.
Samsung Electronics is the largest foreign-invested company in Vietnam and plays a major role in economic exchanges between the two countries. Until last year, the cumulative investment amount reached 23.2 billion dollars (approximately 34 trillion). In the first half of this year, Vietnam's factory sales reached 31.8 billion dollars (approximately 46.7 trillion won) and exports reached 28 billion dollars (approximately 41.10 trillion won).
Samsung Vietnam has 4 production companies, including △ Samsung Electronics Vietnam (SEV), Samsung Electronics Thai Nguyen (SEVT), Samsung Display Vietnam (SDV), and Samsung Electronics Ho Chi Minh Electronics (SEHC), a Hanoi research and development (R&D) center, and a sales corporation Samsung Vina Electronics. In addition, Samsung Electric Vietnam (SEMV), the local production corporation of Samsung Electric, an affiliate, and Samsung SDI Vietnam (SDIV) of Samsung SDI are operating.
SETV, which was founded by a local executive, is the largest corporation in Samsung Vietnam, and it was determined that as of the 3rd quarter of this year, sales were approximately 29 trillion won, growing more than 10% compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics appoints foreign executives every year based on meritocracy. The 2025 executive appointments announced last year included a sales expert from Thailand, Managing Director Sitthichoke (Sitthichoke), a member of TSE-S Corporation, Southeast Asia General Manager of the Device Experience (DX) Division, and Jacob Joo, Vice President of DSC's Hwanam Sales Team in the Device Solutions (DS/Semiconductor) Division, who is a Chinese sales expert, was included in the promotion list.
