Daegu Metropolitan City and North Gyeongsang Province announced on the 29th that they have been selected in a Ministry of Employment and Labor competition and will fully launch the Mega-Region Link Project, with a total budget of 10 billion won.
The project aims to maximize synergy by organically connecting Daegu's and North Gyeongsang's core resources and to proactively respond to population decline and regional extinction risks.
Specifically, Daegu's mobility software and automotive electronics sectors will be linked with North Gyeongsang's vehicle body, materials and battery manufacturing base to build a robust job ecosystem.
The project will run for four years starting this year.
The two local governments will form a project promotion team headed by their respective governors, with a working-level consultative body under it to monitor progress and resolve issues.
They will also establish a mega-regional employment service system.
Tailored talent support programs reflecting corporate demand will be offered, including talent incentives for young people, life redesign training for middle-aged workers, and AI-linked job training for incumbent employees.
Yang Keum-hee, Economic Vice Governor of North Gyeongsang Province, said, "Through this project, we will create a leading example of mega-regional cooperation by uniting Daegu and North Gyeongsang into a single job market and boosting industrial competitiveness."
