Manchester City of the English Premier League has taken the top spot in the Premier League (EPL) for the first time this season, overtaking Arsenal.
Manchester City defeated Burnley 1-0 in their Round 33 away match of the 2025-2026 EPL season held at Turf Moor in Burnley, England on the 23rd (Korea time), thanks to Erling Haaland's match-winning goal.
Extending their unbeaten run to 11 consecutive matches, Manchester City tied Arsenal in points (70) and goal difference (+37), but took the top spot by leading in goals scored, 66 to 63.
This is the first time Manchester City has climbed to the top of the league since the start of the season. They had been 9 points behind Arsenal, but closed the gap and moved into first place in less than two weeks.
If Manchester City succeeds in their comeback title win, they will kiss the league championship trophy for the seventh time in nine years.
Manchester City, now on a three-game winning streak, last lost in January against rivals Manchester United. Since then, they have remained unbeaten in 11 matches.
Arsenal's back-to-back losses in their last two matches are painful. They were caught 1-2 by mid-table Bournemouth, followed by a 1-2 defeat to Manchester City in their head-to-head clash.
Haaland scored the opening goal just 5 minutes into the first half. Receiving a pass from Jeremy Doku, he broke through to the front of the goal and found the net with a chip shot. Haaland continued to trouble Burnley in the second half, even striking the post.
Manchester City's offensive was fierce. Rayan Cherki's powerful shot was blocked by Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, and Nico O'Reilly's header was also cleared by the goalkeeper.
With this defeat, Burnley's relegation has been confirmed. They drop back to the Championship (second division) after just one year. Burnley has recorded only 4 wins all season. In particular, they have been in extreme form slump, winning just once in 25 matches since early November.
