Korea Technology Finance Corporation (KOTEC) is building a credit information system based on patent data from domestic corporations analyzed using artificial intelligence algorithms. Small and medium-sized venture companies, which have long lacked information on competitors' patent portfolios, are expected to use the system to design their research and development strategies more precisely.

KOTEC announced Sunday that it has filed a patent for its "AI-based Technology Innovation Information" technology and is pursuing entry into the credit information business.

The technology analyzes approximately 1.35 million patent records held by domestic corporations using AI, automatically classifies them according to the National Science and Technology Standard Classification System, and systematically provides "technology innovation information" linked to companies' patent holdings. The technology innovation information comprises outstanding technology data including patents, competitor landscapes, patent holdings by company size, latest R&D trends, and government R&D project announcements.

KOTEC explained that the technology innovation information, provided by technology sector, is expected to enhance small and medium-sized venture companies' access to and utilization of technology information.

The corporation also plans to offer information to support investment decisions and risk management for investors and financial institutions.

KOTEC plans to provide customized analysis reports that integrate its "Tech Index," which evaluates companies' innovative growth capabilities, with credit, financial, and activity data. The reports are expected to support corporate decision-making at the technology development planning stage, including technology development and business strategy formulation, new item discovery, and competitor analysis.

KOTEC will officially launch the technology innovation information in December this year, in line with upgrades to K-TOP, its AI-based open technology evaluation platform. Ahead of that, it plans to first release a feature in May that identifies the technology classification of patents using the technology innovation information database.
