SpaceX IPO imminent?! After Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, here is the stock that top traders picked.
High-return investors trading through Mirae Asset Securities net purchased SK hynix (000660.KS), Samsung Electronics (005930.KS), Mirae Asset Venture Investment (100790.KQ), and Hyundai Motor (005380.KS) most heavily during the morning session on Sunday.
According to Mirae Asset Securities, the "super-elite stock traders" — defined as the top 1% by investment return over the past month among the brokerage's equity trading clients — bought SK hynix most actively by 11 a.m.
SK hynix traded at 884,000 won as of 11 a.m., up 0.91% from the previous close. Korea's semiconductor market had recently faced "peak-out" concerns as the upward momentum in commodity DRAM prices stalled. However, buying interest has flowed in as forecasts emerged that memory price gains would accelerate.
"The memory price rally that exceeded first-quarter expectations is expected to continue into the second quarter with even stronger momentum," said Kim Dong-won, head of research at KB Securities. "As second-quarter price negotiations have recently begun, major customers are prioritizing stable supply as their top condition despite the sharp price increases in the first quarter, and order intensity is showing a clear increase compared to the first quarter."
Samsung Electronics ranked second in net purchases. At the same time, Samsung Electronics traded at 191,800 won, up 3.01% from the previous session, reclaiming the "190,000-won Samsung" level. Samsung Electronics is set to announce preliminary first-quarter earnings on Monday the 7th. Securities firms have been issuing forecasts that Samsung will achieve "record-breaking" results.
Mirae Asset Securities projected Samsung Electronics' first-quarter operating profit at 46.8 trillion won, raising its previous estimate by 13.2%. "This earnings report should be watched for how much the company maximizes operating leverage through advanced-node yield stabilization and product mix improvement," said Kim Young-gun, an analyst at Mirae Asset Securities. "There is a high likelihood that earnings growth will continue in the second quarter as both shipment increases and price rises occur simultaneously."
Shinhan Investment Corp. also projected Samsung Electronics' first-quarter operating profit at 44.2 trillion won. "As supply constraints intensify, Samsung Electronics holds the largest DRAM and NAND production capacity (CaPa)," said Kim Hyung-tae, an analyst at Shinhan Investment Corp. "Leverage effects exceeding those of competitors are expected."
Mirae Asset Venture Investment took third place. The ranking is attributed to heightened expectations surrounding Mirae Asset Group's SpaceX-related investments. In particular, investor sentiment appears to have been stimulated after U.S. media reported on April 1 (local time) that SpaceX had confidentially filed an initial public offering (IPO) registration with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
On the other hand, high-return investors sold Daehan Optical Communication (010170.KS), Orum Therapeutics (475830.KQ), TLB (356860.KQ), and Samsung SDI (006400.KS) most heavily on the day. On the previous trading day, top net purchases were Daehan Optical Communication, LG Electronics (066570.KS), Korean Air (003490.KS), and Meritz Financial Group (138040.KS), while top net sales were SK hynix, Samsung Electro-Mechanics (009150.KS), and Mirae Asset Venture Investment.
