The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) will begin accepting applications for 17,252 purchased rental housing units for young adults, newlywed couples and families with newborns across 16 cities and provinces nationwide starting Monday.
This year's supply comprises 9,112 units for young adults and 8,140 units for newlyweds and newborn families. A total of 10,923 units — 63% of the total — have been allocated to the Seoul metropolitan area. By supplier, Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) accounts for 12,046 units, Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH) for 2,748, Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corporation (GH) for 775, Incheon Urban Development Corporation (IH) for 430 and other regional housing corporations for 1,253.
The youth purchased rental program targets unmarried young adults without homeownership, offering rent at 40–50% of market rates with a maximum residency of 10 years, providing a stable housing foundation for young people preparing for financial independence. The newlywed and newborn category is divided by income level into Type I at 30–40% of market rent and Type II at 70–80%. Type I targets households earning up to 70% (90% for dual-income couples) of the average monthly income per urban worker household, while Type II covers those earning up to 130% (200% for dual-income couples). Families with a child born within the past two years receive first priority. Newlywed couples married within seven years, prospective newlyweds and households raising children aged six or younger are also eligible to apply.
Purchased rental housing refers to public rental units that the government directly supplies by purchasing or constructing quality housing in urban areas. The program enjoys high preference and satisfaction among tenants, as it allows long-term residence at affordable rents with housing stability.
Starting this year, the application system has shifted from quarterly regular recruitment to rolling admissions, reducing wait times for move-in. LH units can be found on the LH Subscription Plus platform, while units offered by SH and other corporations can be checked on each agency's website.
