An airline captain was stabbed to death outside his home, prompting a massive police manhunt.
According to the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency on the 17th, a man in his 50s identified as Captain A was found stabbed in a corridor of an apartment building in Busanjin-gu around 7 a.m. A resident discovered the victim, who was rushed to a hospital but did not survive. Police believe A was attacked while leaving his home for work around 5:30 a.m.
Investigators have identified a former first officer in his 50s, identified as B, who previously worked at the same airline, as the prime suspect. B left the company in 2024 and reportedly had conflicts with colleagues over health issues and his departure from the airline.
Following the morning killing, police contacted captains at the airline to offer protection services. Eight pilots are currently under police protection.
Police confirmed that B allegedly attempted to kill another former colleague in Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, in the early hours of the 16th, one day before the fatal attack. The victim's strong resistance thwarted the attempt. B then traveled to Busan, where he fatally stabbed A.
"We have assembled a 60-member task force to track the suspect's movements," a police official said. "We are making an all-out effort to apprehend him."
