SEONGNAM -- The city of Seongnam announced it will launch an online and offline public petition campaign starting Jan. 16 to urge the inclusion of the Gyeonggi Southern Metropolitan Railway in the government's 5th National Railway Network Development Plan.
The petition aims to gather public support for the railway project, which would connect Seoul Sports Complex Station (Lines 2 and 9) to Seongnam, Yongin, Suwon, and Hwaseong, and convey the demand for its swift implementation to the central government, the city said.
Residents can participate in the online petition through the Seongnam city website or QR codes. Offline petition forms will be available at city hall, district offices, and community service centers for voluntary participation.
"The Gyeonggi Southern Metropolitan Railway is a key project that will serve as a cornerstone for alleviating chronic traffic congestion on major roads in the southern Gyeonggi region and promoting balanced urban development," a Seongnam city official said. "We ask for active public participation and support so that we can achieve inclusion in the National Railway Network Development Plan, which is the first hurdle for this project."
