TheCheat, Korea's largest financial fraud prevention platform, announced on the 16th that it has completely revamped its subscription service "TheCheat Premium" to introduce a compensation program for secondhand trade and financial fraud damages.
The key change is restructuring the service into a "total financial fraud care" system that connects pre-transaction verification, mid-transaction authentication, and compensation when damages occur—going beyond simple fraud history searches. The decision reflected the fact that many damage cases reported to TheCheat occur in situations where it is difficult to identify the contact information and identity of the counterparty.
Accordingly, the newly introduced "Safe Transaction Helper" is a feature that sends a verification link to the counterparty to authenticate their identity and verify whether the account is registered under their name. Particularly when fraud occurs in transactions that have gone through this process, investigative authorities can immediately identify the perpetrator, accelerating arrest and damage recovery. It can be utilized as a safety measure for non-face-to-face real estate contracts.
The "Identity Theft Protection Report" is a service that continuously compares and monitors users' mobile phone numbers and account numbers against TheCheat's fraud damage database, detecting and immediately providing warning alerts if a third party misuses the information. It serves to prevent secondary damages from information leaks.
The "Financial Fraud Compensation" is a program that provides actual compensation to users who meet certain conditions when they fall victim to voice phishing or secondhand trade fraud. This new benefit was introduced considering that unintended damages can occur despite best efforts to prevent fraud.
Regarding this revamp, TheCheat CEO Kim Hwa-rang said, "This is not simply adding features, but the core is transforming financial fraud victims' despair of 'there's no solution even if you get scammed' into the conviction that 'the criminal will definitely be caught and losses can be compensated.'" He added, "TheCheat will serve as a social safety net that takes responsibility not only for financial fraud prevention but also for restoring victims' daily lives."
TheCheat Premium can be subscribed directly within the TheCheat app or through affiliated value-added services from Korea's three major mobile carriers.
