A man in his 50s who shattered his neighbor's windows with a golf club over inter-floor noise disputes has been fined.
Judge Park Dong-wook of the Chuncheon District Court's 3rd Criminal Division sentenced A, 58, to a fine of 8 million won ($5,700) on charges of special property damage, the court announced Monday.
A was indicted for taking a golf club into an apartment corridor on the night of October 23 last year and breaking four windows of a neighboring unit, claiming he was angered by noise from the floor above.
"The nature of the crime is serious considering the circumstances, the manner of the offense, and the danger posed by the weapon used," Judge Park said. "The defendant has multiple prior convictions for other crimes and committed this offense while serving a suspended sentence for a violent crime."
However, the court took into account that A admitted to the crime and showed remorse, repaired the broken windows, and reached a settlement with the victim when determining the sentence.
