Yeungnam University announced on the 11th that it has been selected as a recipient institution for the "Gyeongbuk Glocal University" program, a key initiative under Gyeongbuk Province's Regional Innovation System and Education (RISE) framework.
The program aims to create regional innovation ecosystems centered on universities.
Universities will take the lead in enhancing regional competitiveness by connecting with future advanced industries and regional strategic industries, while expanding collaboration opportunities with leading domestic and global companies.
Yeungnam University was selected as an AI-focused glocal university under the program.
From this year through 2029 (2+2 years), the university will receive 5 billion won annually, up to a maximum of 20 billion won over four years, to lead the transformation of regional strategic industries by establishing an "AI+X (AX, AI Transformation) Hub University."
Specifically, the university will focus on three key initiatives: establishing a global enterprise-linked AI transformation ecosystem, cultivating region-specific AI+X talent, and realizing an "AI for All" value dissemination and sharing model.
Earlier, Yeungnam University was also selected as an AI sector operating institution in the "Advanced Industry Talent Development Bootcamp" program organized by the Ministry of Education, securing 7.6 billion won through 2030.
