DGIST announced on the 11th that it has appointed Choi Moon-jong, former head of Daegu Creative Economy Innovation Center, as the new co-CEO of DGIST Technology Holdings.
DGIST Technology Holdings was established in 2022 to overcome the limitations of universities' fragmented and one-time technology transfers and to provide continuous support for companies throughout their entire growth cycle.
The company aims to create a "virtuous cycle model of industry-academia cooperation" that commercializes outstanding university research outcomes and reinvests the generated profits back into research and development (R&D). It particularly focuses on discovering very early and early-stage investment opportunities in ventures and research labs.
Choi previously served as a professor at Sunmoon University and as head of the Daegu Creative Economy Innovation Center.
DGIST stated that Choi is a "technology business expert" who laid the foundation for the regional startup ecosystem, and is the right person to lead the technology holding company based on his extensive practical experience and solid public-private network.
"I will faithfully serve as a bridge so that DGIST's world-class deep-tech assets can have an impact in the market beyond the laboratory," Choi said. "I will take a leading role in revitalizing the regional startup ecosystem by actively establishing investment funds."
