Hanwha Group will become the first Korean defense company to participate in BEDEX 2026, Belgium's inaugural defense exhibition opening in Brussels.
Hanwha Aerospace and Hanwha Systems announced their participation in the three-day event running from June 12-14. The exhibition will feature major global defense contractors including Rheinmetall, KNDS, and Raytheon.
"By proactively participating in a defense exhibition held in Belgium, home to NATO headquarters, we will accelerate our push into the Western European market," Hanwha said.
Belgium is currently prioritizing the construction of a multi-layered air defense network as its top defense objective. In response, Hanwha Aerospace will showcase its Long-range Surface-to-Air Missile (L-SAM) interceptors and launchers, while Hanwha Systems will display the L-SAM Multi-Function Radar (MFR), laser air defense system "Cheongung," and a laser-equipped armored vehicle currently under development.
The L-SAM is a long-range surface-to-air guided weapons system that intercepts ballistic missiles at altitudes above 40 kilometers using hit-to-kill technology. Development was completed in 2024, with mass production beginning last year. The system can intercept medium-range ballistic missiles descending at high speeds, enabling immediate response to enemy threats.
Hanwha Aerospace will also introduce its Chunmoo multiple launch rocket system to the Western European market. Following successful exports to Poland, the Chunmoo has expanded its European footprint to Estonia and Norway. The company will present the Chunmoo launcher along with four types of guided missiles with ranges from 80 to 290 kilometers.
"Belgium is a critical hub for European security, hosting NATO headquarters and key EU institutions," a Hanwha official said. "Building on our strategic partnership with NATO established through K9 self-propelled howitzer exports, we will promote our air defense and ground firepower capabilities to the European market and actively pursue cooperation opportunities."
