DANGJIN, South Chungcheong Province — The city of Dangjin announced on the 11th that the "Korea Coast Guard Human Resources Development Institute Establishment Project" has been selected for a preliminary feasibility study following a review by the Ministry of Economy and Finance's Fiscal Project Evaluation Committee on the 10th.
The Korea Coast Guard Human Resources Development Institute establishment project is being promoted by the Korea Coast Guard to cultivate coast guard personnel and strengthen maritime safety capabilities.
The project will undergo a comprehensive review of economic viability and policy validity through the upcoming preliminary feasibility study. The selection for the preliminary feasibility study is expected to provide significant momentum for the project's advancement.
The Korea Coast Guard selected the site for the Human Resources Development Institute through a nationwide public competition in 2023, with the Daejeon-ri area in Hapdeok-eup, Dangjin, chosen as the final location. Although the project failed to be selected for the preliminary feasibility study on two previous occasions, the city secured this selection through thorough preparation, including improvements to the project plan and feasibility assessment.
The Korea Coast Guard plans to invest a total project cost of 183.7 billion won to develop the institute on a total area of 194,817 square meters. The facility will be established as a specialized coast guard educational institution equipped with training facilities and practical exercise facilities.
The city anticipates that once established, the Korea Coast Guard Human Resources Development Institute will serve as a key hub for cultivating coast guard personnel by providing a systematic education and training environment. The city also expects positive ripple effects on regional development, including local economic revitalization and improved residential conditions from the influx of trainees and related personnel.
A Dangjin city official stated, "The selection of the Korea Coast Guard Human Resources Development Institute establishment project for the preliminary feasibility study is a very meaningful achievement," adding, "We will work closely with relevant agencies including the Korea Coast Guard to ensure the project passes the preliminary feasibility study without setbacks and proceeds smoothly."
