Ko Ho-yeon was inaugurated as the third president of the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine (KIOM) on the 10th.
KIOM is a public institution under the Ministry of Health and Welfare established to support traditional Korean medicine policy, research and development, and industry promotion. The institute pursues various projects aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of the traditional Korean medicine industry and improving public health.
Ko, a licensed traditional Korean medicine doctor, has accumulated diverse experience in traditional medicine policy and research across academia, research institutions, and government agencies. He served as a professor at Semyung University's College of Korean Medicine, conducting education and research activities. He also led improvements in herbal medicine policy and regulations as Director of the Herbal Medicine Policy Division at the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Ko has maintained ties with KIOM since the organization's predecessor, the Herbal Medicine Promotion Foundation, when he served as a subcommittee chair during the development of the "5th Comprehensive Plan for Korean Medicine Development and Promotion." He currently serves as Chairman of the Korea Health Personnel Licensing Examination Institute and as a part-time review committee member at the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service.
"As we enter an era of super-aged society, the importance and role of traditional Korean medicine are growing," Ko said. "KIOM must contribute to public health and industrial competitiveness as a key national institution connecting traditional Korean medicine policy, research, and industry."
