LG Uplus is joining forces with FuriosaAI to develop "Sovereign AI Appliance," artificial intelligence equipment that can be safely operated within enterprise environments.
LG Uplus announced on the 8th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with FuriosaAI for AI infrastructure cooperation on the 4th at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona, Spain. Lee Sang-yeop, Chief Technology Officer of LG Uplus, and Baek Jun-ho, CEO of FuriosaAI, attended the signing ceremony.
The Sovereign AI Appliance being jointly developed by both companies is an integrated AI device designed to process data exclusively within on-premise corporate infrastructure without transmitting it to external clouds. The product integrates LG Uplus's enterprise AI platform, LG AI Research's AI model "EXAONE 4.0," and FuriosaAI's low-power, high-efficiency neural processing unit (NPU). It is a complete product that enterprises can utilize immediately after installation without building separate infrastructure.
LG Uplus is designing an operational structure enabling internal document search, summarization, and workflow automation based on EXAONE 4.0, while also building systems that respond quickly even in closed network environments. FuriosaAI will enhance inference performance based on its second-generation NPU "Renegade" and provide support to maintain stable performance even when multiple users connect simultaneously.
Both companies expect this partnership to expand AI adoption in sectors where external cloud usage is difficult, including public services, defense, healthcare, finance, manufacturing, and research institutions. They plan to broaden cooperation to areas including NPU-as-a-Service based on AI data centers (AIDC) and physical AI.
