BUSAN -- The city of Busan announced on the 8th that it has signed letters of intent (LOI) with four national research institutes to develop an artificial intelligence-based platform for responding to extreme rainfall events.
The partner institutions are the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology, Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources, Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, and Korea Railroad Research Institute.
The collaboration aims to conduct field demonstrations for the "Development of Digital Urban Flood Control Technology for Flood-Safe Cities," a convergence program under the National Research Council of Science and Technology.
The city plans to introduce AI-based real-time rainfall analysis technology using CCTV footage to monitor precipitation conditions across urban areas. The system will integrate data on underground structures, drainage networks, and flooding history to predict inundation extent and depth in advance.
The city will also enhance its existing Urban Safety Integrated Information Service, improving capabilities for hazard detection, prediction, and evacuation route guidance.
