The driver who crashed a Porsche off Banpo Bridge into the Han River while under the influence of drugs was found to have injected additional substances inside the vehicle moments before the accident, police said.
Seoul Yongsan Police Station said Thursday it has obtained and is analyzing closed-circuit television footage showing the movements of the female driver in her 30s, identified only as "A," on the day of the accident. She faces charges including violation of the Narcotics Control Act.
Police reportedly identified footage showing A administering drugs inside the vehicle shortly before the crash.
Investigators also confirmed that a woman was seen exiting from the passenger seat in the footage and are working to identify her.
On Oct. 25 at approximately 8:44 p.m., A was driving a Porsche SUV across Banpo Bridge when the vehicle broke through the guardrail and plunged onto the Han River embankment near Jamsu Bridge. A male Mercedes-Benz driver in his 40s sustained minor injuries when A's vehicle landed on his car during the fall.
Police discovered large quantities of propofol injections, sedative anesthetics, and disposable syringes inside the Porsche at around 12:40 a.m. the following day and arrested A on the spot. She was subsequently detained on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act and referred to prosecutors.
Police said Thursday they have additionally charged A with drug-impaired driving under the Road Traffic Act and causing injury through dangerous driving under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes before referring the case to prosecutors.
