South Korea's National Intelligence Service reported to the National Assembly on Monday that U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on Iran could diminish North Korea's willingness to engage in dialogue.
The NIS delivered the closed-door briefing on the Iran situation to the chairman and floor leaders of the parliamentary Intelligence Committee.
The agency also reported on the safety of Korean nationals in the Middle East and the impact on industry and supply chains. It said it is monitoring the status of Korean residents in each Middle Eastern country.
The NIS said it is working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure the safe return of overseas nationals. In Israel, the agency is providing consular support, including assistance with evacuation to shelters.
Regarding North Korea, the NIS reportedly noted only that Pyongyang's engagement willingness "could be dampened." However, the agency is closely watching that North Korea has criticized U.S. airstrikes on Iran without mentioning President Trump by name.
The NIS projected it would be able to assess whether the Iran crisis will be prolonged within one to two weeks.
