Acting National Police Agency Commissioner Yoo Jae-sung pledged to ensure thorough implementation of special security measures for the Lunar New Year holiday.
On the 12th, Yoo presided over a video conference at the National Police Agency in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, with police chiefs from metropolitan and provincial agencies and local police station chiefs nationwide.
"We have issued a new scam alert through the Integrated Response Unit," Yoo said. He urged commanders to "break away from the mindset that this is just routine annual policing and renew their commitment to ensuring a peaceful holiday for the public."
The acting commissioner also called for human rights-based policing, referencing a recent incident in which an officer responding to an unattended death scene posted inappropriate content on personal social media.
Regarding the nationwide local elections scheduled for June, Yoo said authorities will strictly respond to the spread of false information during the election period, while all personnel must maintain political neutrality.
"Registration for preliminary candidates began on the 3rd, and we have formed a dedicated investigation team for election-related crimes. We will prepare in stages according to the election schedule," Yoo said. "I ask that you investigate thoroughly from the party nomination stage and take special care to avoid any controversy over inadequate responses or biased investigations."
