Korea Arboreta and Gardens Institute Wins Top ESG Award

Korea Arboreta and Gardens Institute announced Wednesday that it received the grand prize in the environmental category at the 3rd Korea ESG Awards hosted by the Korean Academic Society of ESG.

The Korea ESG Awards recognize organizations that have contributed to public interest and social value through outstanding sustainable management activities in environmental, social, and governance areas.

The institute was recognized for excellence in the environmental category, including establishing a green management system based on environmental information disclosure, implementing nature-based carbon neutrality practices, biodiversity conservation and restoration activities, building private-sector ESG cooperation models, and expanding environmental culture through citizen participation.

The institute was particularly praised for contributing to biodiversity enhancement by propagating rare and endemic plants, an ESG project to restore wildfire-damaged areas in the Baekdudaegan mountain range, achieving greenhouse gas reduction targets for six consecutive years under the target management system, and establishing an environmental culture platform.

"It is very meaningful that our efforts to practice balanced values across environmental, social responsibility, and governance areas have been officially recognized," said Shim Sang-taek, chairman of Korea Arboreta and Gardens Institute. "We will continue to strengthen responsible environmental management as a public institution, including carbon neutrality and biodiversity conservation."
