Namyangju Wins Presidential Award for Child Safety Excellence

Namyangju City in Gyeonggi Province has won the Presidential Award, the top prize in the local government category, at the 15th National Child Safety Awards.
The award, hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, is a government commendation given to only four local governments nationwide. Namyangju ranked first among 226 municipalities across the country.
The city announced Wednesday that it passed all four evaluation stages—document review, on-site inspection, public voting, and presentation assessment—after submitting its application in August.
Namyangju conducted regular and ad-hoc inspections of all 440 daycare centers in the district and completed joint school bus inspections along with 100 percent enrollment in the safety mutual aid association. The city fully subsidized CCTV rental fees and electrical safety inspection costs, easing the safety compliance burden on childcare facilities.
The municipality installed four "Kids Stations," climate-controlled waiting shelters equipped with CCTV and vehicle notification systems. Pedestrian safety was also improved through expanded school routes and new bypass roads near Toegyewon Elementary and Onam Elementary schools.
The "Daily Safety Experience Room" at the Children's Vision Center, which provides play-based safety education, and safety festivals for infants and toddlers that promote everyday safety habits also received high marks. The city additionally operates "Dad's Emergency Response Training" and a year-round playground inspection program.
Furthermore, all 16 administrative districts are conducting school commute safety campaigns involving residents, government officials, police, and schools, raising safety awareness across the community.
"We will systematize child safety-centered policies and continue expanding prevention-focused administration in partnership with the community to create an environment where every child in our region can grow up safe and happy," Deputy Mayor Hong Ji-sun said.
