Mbappé Wins Partial Victory in Lawsuit Against PSG, Awarded €60 Million

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has won a legal battle against his former club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and will receive a substantial sum.
The BBC reported Wednesday that Mbappé won a partial victory in his unpaid wages lawsuit against PSG and will receive €60 million (approximately 103.9 billion won, or $72 million).
According to the report, a French court ruled that PSG must pay €60 million after acknowledging the club failed to pay Mbappé wages and bonuses from April to June 2024.
Mbappé had initially claimed €263 million, including unpaid wages and damages, but the court did not accept the full amount.
PSG's counterclaim seeking €240 million in damages from Mbappé was dismissed.
"It's a simple truth that contractual promises must be kept. This confirms that labor law applies in professional football as well," Mbappé's lawyer said, welcoming the ruling.
The court recognized the existence of unpaid salary and bonuses but dismissed claims for damages related to unfair treatment or harassment.
PSG had demanded compensation, arguing that Mbappé concealed his decision not to extend his contract for nearly 11 months, depriving the club of the opportunity to receive a transfer fee. The court rejected this claim.
Mbappé refused to exercise his contract extension option in the summer of 2023 while still at PSG. He became a free agent the following year and transferred to Real Madrid without a transfer fee.
