Pyeongtaek Breaks Ground on New City Hall and Council Building

Pyeongtaek City held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new city hall and city council building at the construction site in the Godeok International Planning District on the afternoon of January 16.
Approximately 300 attendees joined the ceremony, including Pyeongtaek Mayor Jeong Jang-seon, National Assembly members, provincial and city council members, heads of local institutions and organizations, and citizens, celebrating the creation of a new administrative center for Pyeongtaek.
The new city hall and council building project is being pursued to address increasing administrative demands following the development of Godeok International New Town and to establish a new central hub for urban development.
Pyeongtaek City completed key procedures including a basic plan in 2019, a feasibility study (LIMAC) in 2022, and central government investment review approval in 2023. The design was finalized through an international design competition in 2024.
The new complex will comprise a main administrative building (one basement level and five above-ground floors) and a city council building (one basement level and three above-ground floors), with a combined gross floor area of approximately 50,000 square meters, consolidating administrative and legislative functions in one location.
Taeyoung Engineering & Construction has been selected as the qualified contractor for detailed design through a basic design technical proposal process. Pyeongtaek City plans to complete construction by 2028, prioritizing safety and quality.
"This groundbreaking ceremony marks a historic starting point symbolizing Pyeongtaek's future," Mayor Jeong said. "It represents the culmination of the integration of three cities and counties, and embodies Pyeongtaek's vision of becoming Korea's leading high-tech security city."
